On the topic “COREPER I priorities of the Danish Presidency”, Corinna Grajetzky, Chair of the Brussels Economic Council, welcomed Ambassador Søren Jacobsen, Deputy Permanent Representative of Denmark to the EU.In her introduction, Ms. Grajetzky outlined the work of the Economic Council, and the activities of its representative office in Brussels.
In his keynote, Ambassador Jacobsen highlighted the current situation in Europe, underlining the strong interlinkage between security and competitiveness.
On the topic of competitiveness, He presented three main focus areas of the Danish Presidency: Simplification, Competitive Europe, and Trade Policy.
On simplification, he pointed to the importance of omnibus procedures and stressed the need for continued stakeholder dialogue, emphasizing the importance of industry input. Regarding competitiveness, he referred to the “Competitiveness Compass” and the “Draghi Report” as important frameworks. He emphasized workforce, the internal market, the energy transition, capital markets, and research and innovation as key areas for action. On trade, he underlined the importance of facing the new reality, which further emphasises the need for new trade agreements.
In the subsequent discussion, participants had the opportunity to raise questions and share their perspectives. The debate focused on issues related to energy, digitalisation, and the automotive sector.
